Research and investigation of Sharestan Retrofit Design
Methods of retrofitting masonry buildings and introducing the new and innovative SRD method of seismic strengthening masonry buildings are common in different parts of the world, including Iran. These types of buildings cover lots of rural buildings, and many technical and engineering issues have not been considered in the construction of these buildings. For this reason, the most damage has been caused to these types of buildings during recent earthquakes, and due to economic issues, the construction of these buildings is still continuing in these regions. Historical structures are also considered part of these buildings. The seismic resistance of these buildings is one of the important and significant issues, considering that the materials used in these buildings are unreinforced masonry materials, and also considering the history of the vulnerability of these buildings to previous earthquakes, these buildings are weak in dealing with moderate and relatively severe earthquakes. There are various methods for retrofitting masonry structures. In this research, each of the retrofitting methods is examined. The innovative SRD method, which is carried out from design to implementation by the Sharestan Retrofit Design, is introduced. The results of the analyses and tests indicate that the performance of the retrofitted structure is improved with minimal intervention, and the drift of the retrofitted building is increased from 2% of the building's height to 5% of its height.
